History is moving rapidly. Only three months or less ago I was being looked upon by friends and family as some sort of lunatic for saying that there was a capitalist meltdown underway and I think that this attitude, the attitude that capitalism is going to prevail and persist is the basis for their skepticism. This is not to say that any of these people are particularly ruling class in their status. Some of them still imagine that there is no such thing as a ruling elite or ruling class. Yet, they are totally brainwashed both by the temporary successes of capitalism and the continuous corporate brainwashing that is almost the only thing we ever hear, see or read.
Of course, more people than we would like will remain frozen in the past and the illusions and lies of the past fill their heads and will fill their heads as long as they live. There are die hard reactionaries and it is crucial to remember this. We need to take an alternative vision to the people, a vision based as much as possible on facts, science and revolutionary humanism. Yet no matter how effective our efforts will be, and they are pitiful now, there will remain die hard reactionaries in every class and ethnicity and gender. That is crucial. Some enemies of liberty and liberation will never change.
Here in the United States almost everyone is still talking like the big lie of capitalist prosperity, of capitalist omnipotence of capitalist inevitably is still true. Of course capitalism is not immortal, it is not going to persist forever and even the capitalists cannot even agree as to whether their economic system is a capitalist system or not.
Consider the libertarians. Certainly they are not the mainstream and I want to unite with them in overthrowing monopoly capitalism but they insist it is not capitalism. They have their own unique perspective to be sure and I have learned from the libertarians and hope to learn more, but this really existing capitalism does need to be dealt with before it deals with us! My chief disagreement with the libertarian position is that
it is unscientific, it refuses to look at the historical data about how capitalism becomes monopoly or oligopoly capitalism, the very thing that the libertarians don't like. But how do they propose to replace such really existing capitalism with schoolroom ideals about markets and such? How?
I am not an economist but I am a citizen. How am I or anyone supposed to make a rational decision about politics or economics without at least doing my best to understand what is going on? Of course I could say to myself, "Leave it up to the EXPERTS.", and give up on being an informed citizen. I refuse to give up and it is very unwise to do so because the boot is coming down on our necks. I kid you not.
Furthermore, is it not the actions and leadership of the so called EXPERTS that has led us to this catastrophe? Their careful guidance of capitalism is what leads us to this crisis today. Do we dare to pretend they have our interests at heart, the interests of workers and just about everyone who isn't a super rich exploiter of the peoples of the world? Look at Madoff. He didn't even have the interests of the ruling class at heart and has ripped them off to the tune of fifty billions. What do you think such a class of exploiters cares about the workers or anyone else outside their opulent offices and gilded homes? Face it, the master never has the slave's interest at heart until he or she refuses to be the master and agrees that any system of slavery, capitalist slavery in this case must be transcended and replaced with a wholesome set of social and economic relations.
We need a new system, a socialism that benefits all humans regardless of geopolitical identity. Now we have a socialism or fascism that increasingly benefits a relatively tiny ruling class, one to a few percent of the population.
Today gasoline, at least, is relatively cheap. I am surprised. Yet the whole situation has gotten worse by the day since my first entry in this blog. Now we face a situation where they are going to do anything to save their doomed system and that is bad news for the rest of us, it is a final declaration of war on the worldwide proletariat regardless of national location, belief or culture.
Yes, everything the politicians are still promising (education, health care, green energy) is going to be thrown out the window to cultivate a healthy capitalist class, a group of exploiters who will not be bankrupt and can intensify their parasitic exploitation of the rest of us!
The whole recovery plan of the capitalists can be described as an effort to preserve the financial caste so it can continue its absurd efforts to "play capitalism". We are supposed to become their debt slaves so they can exploit us for the remainder of our days. What we need is a new social and cultural design, not an effort to preserve the capitalist edifice that collapsing upon us and which now dominates our lives and offers most of us a future far more bleak than anyone living can remember.
Of course some of these folks are saying all will be well in a few months or a few years. I am skeptical of this prediction. Just for example the United States has decided to be Robert Mugabe and print money as its new monetary policy. Its just the opposite thing that the Fed has done for decades. Of course we are not being warned about the consequences nor has their been any real input from the people or the workers about how to run or to revolutionize the economy and culture. Runaway inflation is being imposed by capitalism and the capitalist rulers, technicians and thugs.
"Print money!", that is the new policy and I have heard many rumors about it but there it is on the front page of the New York Times today,
December 17, 2008, the headlines say it all, "IN A BOLD ACTION FED CUTS KEY RATE TO VIRTUALLY ZERO : Plans to Print as Much Money as Needed to Ease the Frozen Credit Markets."
Inflation will soar!
So what should these headlines actually read?
At least the part that the NYT published in capital letters could be improved. What is unique is that the subheading tells us that they plan to print money like, well like counterfeiters which has been the nature of their capitalist rule for decades anyway, counterfeiting, and lying and conniving and swindling, but I repeat myself.
The capitalized headlines of the capitalist newspaper should read FED ADMITS DEFEAT or FED TO CREATE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS OUT OF THIN AIR or ZIMBABWE ECONOMISTS NOW RUNNING THE FED. For those new to this stuff, the Federal Reserve has been trying to prevent inflation since before you were probably born. Now inflation is the Fed's cure!
How about the family and friends? They are still unable to take the time and effort to understand what is happening. Those with the time to think have already learned not to do that very much. Their mindlessness is shocking but persistent and the few things they say they think seem to be a mere repetition of something they heard on TV. Too bad for them and all of us.
MARXISM IS OMNIPOTENT BECAUSE IT IS CORRECT.
